Welcome from the Head of School

Professor Yinghe He

Welcome to the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at James Cook University. As the Head of School, and on behalf of our staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you as you get ready to embark on a journey that will ultimately transform your life.

JCU offers five undergraduate majors in engineering (chemical, civil, computer systems engineering, mechanical and electrical and electronics), as well as two majors in physical sciences (mathematics and physics). A unique online postgraduate astronomy program is also offered.

All of our engineering programs are accredited by Engineers Australia, which means your qualification is recognised across Australia and in most countries, and all are offered up to a doctorate level.

Our school also prides itself on its strong, ongoing links with local industry and as a result many graduates walk straight into jobs, some even receiving multiple offers prior to graduation. These industry links come into play throughout the duration of the program with our engineering advisory board, which consists of senior members from some of the local industries, ensuring all course material remains up-to-date and highly relevant. On top of this students enjoy a substantial amount of hands-on experience with industry placements.

Academics aside, students studying at JCU will also enjoy a thriving social life with a variety of fun activities regularly held on campus. I would encourage all students to get involved as it is through these activities that friendships are made and professional networks are formed for life.

I invite you to explore our school to discover how we can help you to achieve your career goals. Your journey starts here.
